San Francisco skyline

San Francisco, CA.

As the birthplace of Cruise, San Francisco was a natural first step for testing our self-driving technology. The city’s unique roadscape equipped with steep hills, public transit trains and trolleys, and narrow-winding streets are a sight to see and provide a challenging environment for our driverless cars to navigate. Another San Francisco fixture is our growing community of cyclists that we share the road with, which adds another layer of complexity, that we train our vehicles to manage safely. By testing our driverless fleet in our own backyard, we’re able to quickly test and iterate on new ideas safely, like Cruise Anywhere–our ride-hailing app for Cruise employees to fetch driverless cars to transport them around the city.
