Giving Tuesday: Supporting the communities where we operate
Share
Serving our communities is part of Cruise’s DNA and has been from the beginning. Not only is our mission to improve life in cities as we grow and scale – but it’s also to help meet urgent community needs everywhere we operate.
Over two years ago, we made a first-in-industry pledge to commit 1% of our autonomous fleet to serving local communities, and urged other AV companies to join us. Our San Francisco fleet’s first customers were San Francisco-Marin Food Bank and SF New Deal, organizations dedicated to addressing food insecurity, who were responding to historic demand at the onset of the pandemic. We asked how we could help, they urgently needed additional delivery capacity, and Cruise for Good was born.
Before we transported passengers in our ridehail service, we transported meals to the doorsteps of individuals in need – 2.3 million and counting.
Now, as Cruise lays the groundwork to launch driverless operations in Phoenix and Austin, we’re joining forces with local non-profits to listen, learn from, and invest in their work — just as we’ve done in San Francisco.
On this Giving Tuesday, we’re taking the first step in extending our social impact commitments to these new markets: We’re matching $10,000 in donations at two leading food banks – United Food Bank in Greater Phoenix and the Central Texas Food Bank in Austin. Additionally, we’re proud to continue to support our longtime partner, the San Francisco Marin Food Bank, with $10,000 toward their Giving Tuesday campaign, in addition to Cruise’s ongoing contributions throughout the year to support their home delivery program and other vital initiatives.
Join us in supporting these local, community-led organizations that are helping to alleviate hunger. Together we can raise funds to provide much needed meals for our neighbors in need:
All in all, these Giving Tuesday contributions will provide more than 100,000 meals to neighbors in need. As we recognize this important day of giving, it is critical to remember that hunger is a year-round challenge, and these organizations’ work to fight food insecurity is daily and vital.
This is just the beginning of our Cruise for Good work in new markets. We’ll continue to follow the lead of our on-the-ground partners and look for opportunities to serve our communities and meet their needs.
We thank you for your celebration and recognition of Giving Tuesday, and your generous contributions to our partners.
