Promoting transportation priorities in SF

Why Cruise supports the Muni Reliability and Street Safety Bond

From the beginning, Cruise’s mission has been to improve life in our cities: to make our roads safer, improve the health of our planet, and make transportation more accessible for more communities — starting here in our hometown of San Francisco.

But that mission extends beyond Cruise alone. Improving transportation and life in cities is a whole-of-community effort. It requires that we understand how Cruise’s all-electric, autonomous service fits into the communities we are a part of — not the other way around.

Understanding our social responsibility is built into the fabric of Cruise. That’s why we partner with SF-Marin Foodbank and SF New Deal in their missions to address food insecurity and support small businesses — using our fleet to deliver over 2 million meals to SF residents in need since the onset of the pandemic. We’re proud to support Humanmade, a leader in engaging historically excluded communities in the jobs of the future through cutting-edge workforce training. And we’re working with local youth robotics teams building STEM knowledge in our city, with community-based organizations to create local hiring pathways, and with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and regional transit operators to research AVs’ potential impact on congestion, emissions, and role in complementing conventional fixed route transit.

Providing more and better options to get around the city we love is what Cruise is all about. That’s why we’re throwing our support behind a generational effort to improve public transportation as well as pedestrian and bike safety in San Francisco: the 2022 Muni Reliability and Street Safety Bond.

The bond, which will be on the ballot this June 7th, will fund significant improvements to public transit in San Francisco: it will improve Muni services, upgrade bus facilities, and enhance street safety through wider pedestrian lanes, improved traffic signals, speed reduction, and more.

In line with our founding mission to make transportation better, safer, and more accessible, we’re contributing $250,000 to support its successful passage because we think this bond will be an enormous benefit to San Francisco residents for generations to come. We hope you’ll join us in supporting it.
